Planning a destination wedding is the stuff of dreams. Imagine getting married with sun-kissed beaches, historic villas, or mountaintop vows as your backdrop. But when your love story isn’t close to home, your invitations need to carry a little extra magic (and information) to guide your guests along the way.
At Pearl Invitations, we know your invitations are more than just pretty paper. They're the first glimpse your guests get of your wedding experience. And when you're inviting them to travel, celebrate, and make memories with you in a faraway place, clarity and warmth matter more than ever.
Let’s take the stress out of destination wedding invitations and help you create wedding stationery that is as thoughtful as it is beautiful.

What Makes Destination Wedding Invitation Wording Different
We believe that every invitation - local or abroad - should feel like a love note. It should reflect your relationship, your story and the kind of celebration that they can look forward to.
With a destination wedding, your invitation needs to be more than just that. It doesn't just share the details (who, what and where). You're inviting your guests to more than a celebration - you're asking them to pack a bag, book a flight and make a bigger commitment to share your special day with you.
Because you're asking your guests to go the extra mile (literally), the wording on your wedding invitation should be warm, welcoming, and clear. It should set the tone for a travel-filled celebration and acknowledge the effort it takes to attend.
Key Elements to Include for Your Wedding Abroad
Your guests will be booking flights, requesting time off, and coordinating their travel, so don’t leave them guessing. While your wedding website will hold most of the nitty-gritty details, your invitation suite should still give them the big picture.
Here’s what to make sure you include:
Location - Be specific and list the city, country, etc., so guests know where they’re headed.
Travel Dates - Let them know if you’ll be hosting events over multiple days (e.g., welcome dinner, farewell brunch).
Wedding Website Link - Direct guests to your site for everything from hotel blocks to itinerary details.
RSVP Deadline - Give a generous buffer, since this requires more planning time.
Destination Etiquette: Kindness, Clarity, and a Little Extra Time
When you’re inviting loved ones to travel for your wedding, a little notice goes a long way. Unlike a local wedding, yours will require time off work, travel costs, and maybe even passports or visas, so it’s only fair to give them as much information as early as possible.
Start by sending save-the-dates at least 8 to 12 months in advance. That gives guests the chance to plan, budget, and make arrangements without feeling rushed. Your formal invitations should be sent around 4-6 months before the big day.
Beyond the Invitation: What Else to Include
Your invitation is just the beginning! Here's what else to include in your invitation suite.
Save the Dates
Send these at least 8-12 months in advance, especially for international weddings. This gives guests time to plan travel and budget accordingly.
Wedding Website Cards
If it doesn't fit on your invitation itself, a small insert with your invitation directing guests to your website is a must. Your wedding website will be your hub for updates, travel tips, itinerary details, and FAQs.
RSVP Cards (or Online Info)
Make it easy for guests to respond. Include a self-addressed card, or better yet, an online form.
Welcome Cards or Itinerary Inserts
For events spread over multiple days (think welcome cocktails or farewell brunches), a printed itinerary or welcome note helps guests feel cared for the moment they arrive. It can even include suggestions for other attractions for your guests to check out during the rest of their stay.
Keeping Everything Safe in Transit
If you're bringing some of your items with you, remember: these pieces need to travel well. Here are a few things we always keep in mind when helping our couples plan:
1. Keep it flat, keep it safe.We pack all printed pieces in rigid mailers or reinforced folders to avoid bent corners or creases. If you’re carrying items yourself, tuck them in your carry-on luggage. You don't want them to get lost!
2. Consider the climate.Tropical destination? High humidity can curl paper edges or affect adhesive-backed items. We’ll help you choose paper stocks and printing finishes that can withstand the weather.
3. Bring extras.
Always have a few spare menus, place cards, and programs on hand. Beaches are breezy, drinks spill, and things go missing. We’ll make sure you have enough cushion to stay stress-free.
